I agree with Wayne totally.  I did not vote for Nutter.  He was just too ugly.  He's even uglier to me now since what he's trying to do to this city and especially the kids.  He is a very very ugly man.

A lot of people in Philly voted for Michael Nutter. They were convinced by his platform that he was the man to resolve Philly's problems including street violence.  But, now some of these same people are organizing to legally stop Nutter from closing down the communities libraries in sections where they are needed the most.  Some people seem outraged and are asking the mayor if he would close libraries in his own children's neighborhoods.  What a question.  Of course he wouldn't.  He convinced working class people that he was a like member sending his own children to public school, but the school that his children attend Masterman is not your average public school. Not anybody or everybody's kids has the opportunity to attend that school. It is one of the nice places with no metal detectors or graffti or gangs roaming the hallways like many/most of the public schools in Philly are forced to attend.  Masterman has the best teachers, the best facility and quality learning materials.  They do not have to struggle with books missing pages, or inferior learning materials and educatiors/administrators.  It is an elite school for "special children" that allows some lower class student enrollemnt to qualify as a public school open to all children. It is not.

Michael Nutter is an elite black and like the rest of them what applies for us does not apply to him and his family.  For example, there are currently more than 20,000 hungry homeless children living in Philadelphia (haven't hear Nutter mention a damn word about them).  Many of them depend upon the libraries not only for books but for shelter, activities and as a place where they can feel normal for a few hours out of the day.  The need for these libraries for low income, middle and working class families in desperate. Nutter knows that.  He should have chopped on his own people in City Hall first.

What he should have done and he needs to do is to set the example by taking a cut in his pay and requiring the same for those thieves, liars and corrupt politicians, their assistants etc in City Hall the most corrupt building in the state.  Who remembers the Pay to Play scam?  You can bet what is left of your bottom dollar that while the rest of us suffer from unemployment, are unable to pay our utility bills and are forced to live in our coats inside of our houses, while our houses are burning down and our families are being scorched because of being forced to use space heaters, while our bellies are empty and we try to explain to our kids that there isn't anymore food until tomorrow or the next day, or the next day Michael Nutter and his family will be living high on the hog off of money that he essentially makes from our blood sweat and tears.

I think that what we need to do is what people did back in the 1960's start our own schools, banks, supermarkets, health centers, food centers, etc and stop depending on the calvary to come and rescue us.  Unite to Survive people.

What Nutter needs to do and all of those "politicians" in City Hall is to take cuts in their pay, use their own cars pay for their own gas, stop charging those expensive lunches and business dinners to the city, give up their free pass city privileges and pay for it like the rest of us.  It should start at CITY HALL.  He can cut back a lot right downtown without hurting the communities.  How is he going to not hire more police officers when he ran on the fact that we needed more and promised that this would be one of the first things that he did.  Talking about going to Washington, why hasn't he gotten together with the governor on this yet???  One step at a time Michael.

I am disappointed in him terribly especially in his fake community meetings that he is holding right now trying to play people and make them think that they have some kinda power or influence in his decision making.  He/they (the folks who run it and never hurt like regular folks when the going gets tough) are going to do what they want to do no matter how much we holler. It doesn't matter it's not their children who will be out of a library or who will be engulfed in the violence swallowing up our non elite youth. It won't be their houses who are burning down or their streets that go unplowed in the winter.

In answer to The Voice's question, Is Michael Nutter Nuts?  No. He ran as the regular guy but as it turns out he is just being who he is-a politician.

Greetings Justice And Humanity.  First when is radio coming back? My band would like to be on it.  I think that now it the time for Americans to work together to heal their economy instead of fighting.  Libraries are important. Why doesn't your Mayor go after private funding.  From what I know there are a tremendous amount of wealthy people from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, some rich celebrity like Will Smith or Bill Cosby can easily help out.  Just a suggestion.

Dear Voice From The Streets,

In response to the Voice concerning Philadelphia's mayor Michael Nutter I ask what world are you living in?  If you haven't noticed we are currently in dire straits here on a world wide level.  Mayor Nutter made it clear during his campaign that he wanted to hire more police officers but he had no way of knowing that the world would slide into a depression.  Right now as I write he is on his way to Washington to plead for financial help for the city of Philadelphia.

You mentioned Barak Obama so I want to speak to that issue.  Yes, many many people are hoping that President Elect Barak Obama is the answer to our problems, but they are wrong.  We are the answer to our problems. Like Mayor Nutter, Obama can only do a certain amount.  The bulk of the work will come with the poop hits the fan and the average person is suffering.  When we have lost our homes, our savings, our pensions and then have to show some character that will be what thins out the crowd and proves who is the better person.

I think that the appropriate direction for your anxt is toward the prior administration that got us into a multi-billion dollar war leaving us responsible for restructuring an infrastructure when our own was falling apart.  You need to blame the decline of our country on George W. Bush and his crew that helped to make the exploitation of the US masses by rich elite capitalists easier.

I admire Mayor Nutter for stepping to Washington because this is where the problem is.
