In Oakland, California today
police fired rubber bullets and wooden pellets on anti-war protesters in
what is believed to be the first kind of attack since the war in Iraq has
begun. The protesters were blocking access to the American President Lines,
a shipping company they believed is profiting from the war. Police then
opened fire on about 750 protesters. After most of the crowd had disperssed,
the police kept firing on a crowd of about 150 people who remained. The
police arrested at least a dozen protesters. Several people have been injured.
